Apple tvOS 16.3: What’s New?
On January 24th, 2023, Apple planned on releasing an update to the tvOS 16 operating system called tvOS 16.3. However, the release has been postponed as of now. It is suspected that the delay has been caused due to some last-minute bug discovered during the Release Candidate version. This update is the third major one for tvOS 16, which was initially released in September. Apple shares information about tvOS releases in its tvOS support documentation, which is updated after each tvOS release.
Like many tvOS updates, this one primarily focuses on platform stability, bug fixes, and ecosystem improvements. It will support the new large HomePod and the activation of dormant temperature sensors in the HomePod mini. However, End users are unlikely to notice any changes in usability, features, or aesthetics after updating their TV’s software to the latest version, as the update primarily consists of minor, behind-the-scenes improvements. The company released the update for both the Apple TV 4K and the Apple TV HD six weeks after tvOS 16.2. The update will be installed automatically, but it can be manually installed onto an Apple TV via the Settings app as well.
Public Beta Mode
Apple has made the new update available in its Public Beta mode for installation on any compatible Apple TV before its official release. In order to update your Apple TV to tvOS 16.3 in the beta mode, follow these steps:
- Turn on your Apple TV and navigate to the Settings menu.
- Select System, then Software Updates.
- Enable the option for Beta Updates and confirm your choice.
- When the tvOS 16.3 (20K650) update becomes available, select Download and Install to begin the update process.
