The ideal replacement for Star Wars: The Clone Wars has already been set up with Star Wars’ ever-growing The High Republic initiative. A seventh and final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the show that covered the period between Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, was one of Disney+’s flagship projects when it first debuted.
How Star Wars: The Clone Wars sets up a premise
The Clone Wars has major multi-episode arcs interspersed throughout its seasons, even if many episodes offer standalone adventures. The Clone Wars was able to give its audience a comprehensive and wide-ranging vision of how the conflict affected the galaxy, from ideological disagreements on Coruscant to the effects of bloodshed on local settlements, thanks to its anthology-like framework.
If The High Republic ever decides to launch a full-fledged animated series, it should draw narrative inspiration from The Clone Wars. The semi-non-linear format of The Clone Wars would enable the exploration of the worlds and events of the period without interfering with the primary plot of The High Republic.
Could an Animated Show also be lined up?
A High Republic animated series in the style of the Clone Wars could depict the adventures of numerous characters, both well-known and unknown to ardent readers of the series, with episodes and storylines happening concurrently with the main novels, much like many comics and children’s picture books already do. This is in contrast to Young Jedi Adventures and The Acolyte, which will focus on one group of characters and one storyline, respectively. It might shed information on the backstories of the Nihil, one of the key foes of the High Republic era, and further illustrate the distinctions between the lifestyles of the Jedi in this age and those depicted in the prequels.
