India beat Ireland on Monday at St. George’s Park using the DLS technique to advance as the third team to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 semifinals.
India scored 155/6 in 20 overs, with Smriti Mandhana’s 87 serving as the basis. The 2020 finalists showed their dominance by dismissing two important Ireland batters in the opening over.

Due to a miscue with the first delivery, Hunter ran at the wicketkeepers’ end. Renuka Singh then cleaned up Prendergast to put India well in control of the second innings, building on her excellent new ball effort against England.
The team reached 44/2 in the Powerplay because of the collaboration of Gaby Lewis and Laura Delany, who performed a great job of preventing the needed run rate from increasing too much. Ireland’s comeback, however, was halted at Gqeberha by the arrival of rain, and unfortunately for them, they were still five runs below the DLS par score.
At Gqeberha, Mandhana was at her best. She started by cruising through her drives before clearing the fence three times to boost the ante in the middle overs.
Ireland only managed to send her back in the 19th over. They quickly followed it up by taking Deepti Sharma’s wicket on the following delivery to push India back.
In 20 overs, they managed to score 155/6, with Jemimah Rodrigues hitting two boundaries in the last over.
Earlier, India chose to bat first after winning the toss, and they got off to a strong start thanks to some sharp strokeplay from Mandhana. Before Shafali Verma dismissed for 24 when Amy Hunter made a fine, low catch in the deep, the openers put on a half-century stand.

Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain, entered the game at No. 3. She became the fourth women’s cricketer to reach the milestone in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup by scoring 3000 runs. Together, they formed a strong combination, and Mandhana reached her half-century with a thunderous six over midwicket.
Orla Prendergast had a shocker going in from deep as Harmanpreet fell in the 16th over. Richa Ghosh was returned for a duck by Laura Delany in the same over, giving her a three-wicket haul.
