A massive online blunder led to a loss in profits for Xiaomi. The Chinese company entered the Indian laptop market at the beginning of 2020 with Mi Notebook 14 and Mi Notebook 14 Horizon Edition. The notebooks have a metal unibody design. They are exclusive to Amazon India, Mi online store, and partner retailers. However, a few pieces of the laptop were sold at almost half its price on Flipkart due to a glitch. The so-called offer wasn’t left live for long as the website immediately took it down.
Xiaomi Notebook Offer
The Xiaomi Mi Notebook 14 was a part of an extensive tie-up offer on the online platforms. It comes with Intel Core-i5, 8GB RAM, and 512GB SSD. It costs Rs. 43,999. The offer conditions stated that on buying the laptop, the Mi Webcam would be given for free. To avail of the offer, users had to add both the products to the cart, and it would automatically drop the price of the Webcam to Rs. 0 from Rs. 1,469.
The Massive Blunder
Due to a glitch, the website added a whopping 42% on the price of the laptop instead of giving away the Webcam for free. The price dropped from Rs. 43,999 to Rs. 25,519. A customer immediately tweeted about this discount and asked everyone to avail of the offer immediately. Customers who managed to take advantage of the glitch in time had to pay just Rs. 26,998 for the notebook and the Webcam.
Flipkart’s precautionary measure
As soon as Flipkart became aware of this issue, many of the orders were immediately canceled a few minutes after confirmation. However, many lucky customers still got the Xiaomi Notebook for a glitchy offer price. Soon after, Flipkart put up a “Coming Soon” notice on the Mi Notebook 14 and Mi Webcam, indicating that the products were out of stock. The glitch was a major threat to Flipkart as well to Xiaomi. Such glitches are quite common online, but this was the first for Xiaomi. Acting on time saved the company from slipping into a knee-deep pit of unrecoverable loss.
